COVID-19 Mask Drive
Inception to Completion
There was severe shortage of masks as infection spread rapidly. Everyone was forced to stay in their house or wear masks if they have to go out to buy essential supplies. The more vulnerable sections of society like people with underlying conditions or elderly urgently needed to protect themselves. High quality protective masks became very hard to find.
That is why I wanted to start a project to make resuable masks to donate to people in need. We borrowed a sewing machine and searched for materials for the mask. I had to quikly learn sewing to make these masks. Every evening, we would set aside time to sew masks for frontline health workers. We started with 1 mask a day and eventually reach an efficiency of creating 4 masks a day. We made 35 masks in total during 1 month.
We went to Royal Health Gate Nursing center in Trenton NJ to donate the masks. We went to this nursing center because we found out that there were Covid patients and families here who needed help.
The staff and administrator of the facility was very touched and appreciated the effort. I really hope that my small effort has helped these people.
